Staging Judge Duties
Follow the steps on the "Staging Area Checklist". All your duties are pretty well itemized and easy to follow. Here are some specific reminders.
- Please be enthusiastic and positive and non-judgmental throughout the day!
- You will be collecting many forms. Check them carefully for accuracy.
Style form:
- make sure that the items the team has chosen to be judged for Style are not already being scored in Long Term. This means that you must know the specific items being scored in Long Term. Explain to the team why they will get a score of zero with the offending element. Give the team a chance to change their Style form if necessary.
- make sure that the categories to be scored are specific. If they are not, point that out to the team and give them the opportunity to be more specific. For example, if they want a costume to be scored, ask them "which costume?" Be persistent! If they choose not to change it, notify the Style Judges that the team has opted not to change anything about the items they want scored.
The Documentation, Problem Clarifications, and the List.
- These items may not be required by the problem but will help the judges ascertain specific items to be judged.
Give the above paperwork to the Timer/Announcer ASAP,
then proceed with your checklist items.
- Check that the Membership Sign has the correct membership name and number.
- If you are unable to check it because it is all folded up inside the scenery (for example), tell the Timer so the Timer can check it.
- Check that mandatory foot coverings have impenetrable soles. Flip flops are OK. Remind team that they must remain on at all times and will not be allowed to continue performing if they come off.
- Ask any questions pertaining to the problem as specified on the Staging Area Checklist and write it in the space provided on the Staging Area Checklist.
- Give remaining paperwork to Timer, including: Staging Area Checklist, Outside Assistance (OA) Form, Materials Cost Form.
- Inform Timer if any penalty should be assigned or if you have assigned a penalty.
- Introduce the team to the Timer who will then take them to the Staging Area (Starting Area).
- Summon the next team into the Pre-Staging area.
- Keep your eyes peeled for Outside Assistance. Note the offense and assess a penalty. You may want to confer with the other judges to determine an appropriate penalty.
